My Thoughts - I was a little surprised at the gruesome nature of the first chapter, this being a Christian book. I made myself press on and was glad I did. Jason is an excellent writer, he has amazing descriptions and it was quick paced. This was really good! I could see one being a movie.

Terry Brooks's Running with the Demon is billed as "A Novel of Good and Evil," but he could've called it "A Novel of Here and Now." The fantasy master behind the Shannara series switches his focus from neo-Tolkien jungles to the woebegone steel town of Hopewell, Illinois. Though Illinois teenager Nest Freemark (where does he get these names?) looks like your average kid, she spends her free time in the woods asking her 6-inch pal Pick for advice in dodging the Demon and his creepy Feeders, spirits who gobble the souls of humans. Nest is also being tailed by John Ross, a shining Knight of the Word who wants to keep her from the Feeders' jaws.

Meanwhile, in the real world that dominates the novel, Nest Freemark is being stalked by a handsome, evil classmate who she has rejected, and a pack of surly, insurgent striking steelworkers plot a bombing at the company's Fourth of July picnic. The boy and the bombers are unaware that they're being subconsciously manipulated by the Demon. The book's matter-of-fact take on the uncanny is a bit like The X-Files. Brooks's plot has more strands than a plate of pasta, yet his mind is logical to a fault--he used to be a lawyer. There's something for everyone: gory monster attacks, a dread family secret, magical mind-game duels, even a (rather flat) teen-romance subplot. The setting has real grit and the countdown to the Independence Day bombing peps up the tale. Brooks sometimes prosaically explains things a better literary stylist would dramatize, and his minatory visions of environmental apocalypse are more fun than the obvious, nagging, don't-be-a-litterbug message they exist to convey. Brooks will never be as deep as Tolkien, and many readers will find him less awesome as their adolescence recedes. Still, he's the genuine article, and with this book, he raises the stakes he's playing for.

My thoughts - This was definitely different. Very different and a very quick read. I enjoyed the journal style writing and J.L Bourne is a really good writer. He has great humor in his writing. This is a great book for mommies who are looking for something a little different.

My Thoughts- I have to admit I gave this book a big eye roll when I read the back. It seems everyone is jumping on the zombie bandwagon & Zombies = Gore and I'm not big fan of blood and guts but I forgave it because this book was funny I mean REALLY funny!  I mean Mick Jagger is a Zombie Hunter & Ringo Starr a Ninja Lord! I enjoyed the dark humor although I admit this book won't be for everyone.

Firefly Rain by Richard Dansky Review

After a failed business venture in Boston, Jacob Logan comes back to the small Southern town of his childhood and takes up residence in the isolated house he grew up in. Here, the air is still. The nights are black. And his parents are buried close by. It should feel like home—but something is terribly wrong.

Jacob loses all his belongings in a highway accident. His car is stolen from his driveway, yet he never hears a sound. The townspeople seem guarded and suspicious. And Carl, the property caretaker with so many secrets, is unnervingly accommodating. Then there are the fireflies that light the night skies . . . and die as they come near Jacob’s home. If it weren’t for the creaking sounds after dark, or the feeling that he is being watched, Jacob would feel so alone. He shouldn’t worry. He’s not.

And whatever’s with him isn’t going to let him leave home ever again.

My Thoughts - I haven't read a book quite like this in ages. I absolutely loved it! This psychological thriller reminded me of Stephen King with out all of the bad language (although there is a little). I literally could not put this book down. I had to know why the fireflies stayed off of the property. Dansky's Firefly Lane had a nice easy flow to it. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to read a fantastic book!!

My Thoughts - This book was a lot of fun! I hadn't read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies but I will now. Something about adding the supernatural to a classic story is hilarious to me.

It looked boring!! This on the other hand was anything but. Even makes me want to pick up the original as well. All you vampire / fantasy fiction readers, definitely one to pick up!
